PANIMAHAWA RIDGE probably has the most must-visit breath-taking scenic view of the Bukidnon countryside. Located in Barangay Impalutao in the municipality of Impasug-ong, it has become a popular hiking destination ever since it was opened to the public last year.

Panimahawa is derived from the word pamahaw which means breakfast. In the old days, the place is usually where hunters have their breakfast. And surely, the best time to go to the ridge is at dawn before sunrise (3:00am-4:00am) in order to get a glimpse of the sea of clouds and the beautiful sunrise.

The ridge is also a favorite spot for campers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Here’s a quick guide in going to Panimahawa Ridge:

From Cagayan de Oro, ride a bus at Agora Bus Terminal going to Malaybalay City / Valencia City and get off at Impalutao Elementary School which is located along Sayre Highway (2 hours). Walk towards Ant Farm about 1.7 kilometers passing BMEG Feed Mill (15 minutes). Ant Farm manages and organizes Panimahawa Ridge Trekking and Camping other outdoor activities in the area. A registration fee of P300/person is required and a local guide will take you to the ridge. You’ll be crossing Dila River thru a makeshift bamboo bridge before ascending to the ridge which is located on the other side of the river. Average trek time is 2 hours depending on your pace. See map below.

The trek or hike usually starts at 3:00 AM to catch the stunning sea of cloud and sunrise view at 6:00 AM or earlier. For overnight camping, trek time starts at 3:00 PM. Bring your own tent and food/drinks and of course – trash bag for your litters/waste. Perhaps all the ‘habal-habals’ in the city could be legitimized soon. This after motorcycle hailing app ANGKAS announced it is coming to Cagayan de Oro City.

This was confirmed thru a post at its Twitter account.

Similar to Grab and other transport network vehicle service (TNVS) providers, commuters can download the app for free at either Google Play or App Store and book their pick-up and drop-off locations to get a fixed price. Angkas has operations in Metro Manila and Cebu.

Angkas fares usually start at P50 for the first 2km and P10 for every succeeding kilometer. Accordingly, prices may vary based on demand. Also, the company also has its motorcycle delivery service.

Habal-habal has been a preferred mode of transport for many commuters in the city especially at night in destinations where public transports are limited. Unlike 4-wheeled vehicles, motorcycles can get through traffic. Despite their illegal status, their operations continue.
