Following the crowded weekend at Gaston Park where health protocols were violated, the City Government of Cagayan de Oro thru its Disciplina Muna Advocacy Team assigned more personnel at the park premises joining other members of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office, CDRRMD – Oro Rescue, Roads and Traffic Administration, local barangay officials and tanods, City Public Services Office, and City Civil Security Unit to ensure that minimum health protocols are strictly observed.

CDO filmmaker to represent PH in Rotterdam Lab 2021

Cagayan de Oro filmmaker Julienne Ilagan of Blackfish Productions together with April Batican of Epicmedia Productions, have been selected by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) to represent the Philippines in the 21st Rotterdam Lab of the 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in the Netherlands next year.

Kagayanon eye surgeon discovers new orchid species in Bukidnon

Dr. Miguel David de Leon, an eye surgeon and field biologist from Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines, has just discovered and presented a new orchid species. Aerides upcmae was named after his alma mater, the UP College of Medicine.

The said orchid was discovered and photographed sometime in December 2019 by Dr. de Leon in Bukidnon and reportedly endemic to the province. It was confirmed as a new orchid species just last week. See photos of the stunningly spectacular orchid below.

Just recently, the Municipal Government of Don Carlos, Bukidnon has just brought in several tandem bikes at Lake Pinamaloy, a popular biking spot around the scenic lake.

Tandem bikes allows two riders at the same time, have a conversation and exercise together. It works for all ages who knows how to bike.

MisOr poised to become major diving destination with 8 dive sites

The Department of Tourism in Northern Mindanao has listed eight sites in Misamis Oriental which could position the province as among the prime dive sites in the country.

The dive sites identified are as follows:

  • Japanese Garden – Medina, Misamis Oriental
  • Paradise Aquarium – Medina, Misamis Oriental
  • Pontoon Wreck – Talisayan, Misamis Oriental
  • Sipaka Point – Talisayan, Misamis Oriental
  • Mantangale House Reef – Balingoan, Misamis Oriental
  • Lapinig – Balingoan, Misamis Oriental
  • Gingoog Marine Protected Area – Gingoog City
  • Gingoog Pier – Gingoog City

This comes after the recent survey and assessment of the said dive sites by local tourism officials in coordination with accredited dive resorts in Mantangale Alibuag and Duka Bay.

Nobska Breezeway Mountain Sanctuary inaugural opening set December 27

After a 5-day limited opening for a charity event, NOBSKA BREEZEWAY, the newest mountain sanctuary located at the foothills of Mt. Balatukan in San Isidro, Lunotan, Gingoog City will finally have its inaugural opening on Sunday, December 27, 2020 just in time for its first anniversary on December 28. It will be accepting guests for picnic, camping, photo shoots, meeting and even overnight stay. Just contact Rhona (0995-819-1198), Melanie (0995-7782475) or Jing Bells (Facebook).

You might be wondering about the first anniversary but the place was actually completed last year and was scheduled to open during the Holy Week this year. However, the pandemic postponed everything but on a positive note, the owners focused on improving the landscaped garden making it even more attractive to guests.

Promotion Entrance Fees are as follows:

  • P100 per person any age for Day Activity (10AM-4PM)
  • P150 per person any age for Night Activity.
  • For overnight stay, it’s total for both fees (P250).

Nobska Breezeway is CLOSED on Mondays and Tuesdays.

There will also be additional Rental Fees for Exclusive Use of its facilities:

  • Kubo (2-4 pax capacity) – P1,500
  • Party Tent (12-16 pax capacity) – P2,000
  • Mystic Courtyard (12-28 pax capacity) – P3,000

Every year during the latter months towards January, thousands of these species of migratory birds are seen perched on wires and cables along Marcos Bridge in Cagayan de Oro City. Accordingly, these birds travel long distances to escape the winter in the northern hemisphere.

Angkas set to resume CDO pilot testing operations soon; passengers required to bring own helmet

Motorcycle taxi service ANGKAS is set to resume soon its pilot testing operations in Cagayan de Oro City. This time, passengers will now be required to bring their own helmet to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Helmets should have a full-faced visor & lock. Bicycle & hardhat helmets are not allowed.

Government regulating agencies such as the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Local Goverment Unit of Cagayan de Oro, Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), Highway Patrol Group HPG, and Phil. National Police (PNP) recently conducted inspection of its training facility in the city.

Angkas bikers are now also regularly PCR tested in partnership with the IATF. The Angkas app requires them to submit daily temperature and sanitation checks before the start of the work day. Bikers also wear shields/barrier. Meanwhile, passengers are now required to follow the helmet guidelines below.

Reigning Miss Cagayan de Oro Cinderella “Cindy” Obeñita shows off her national costume as part of the resumption of pre-pageant activites of the Binibining Pilipinas Beauty Pageant since the pandemic. The said franchise has been revealing the national costumes of the candidates in its Facebook page.

Designed by Odelon Simpao, Cindy’s whole piece is named “Belleza de Oro” or Beauty of Gold and is composed of over 10,000 glittery pieces with dominant circular bangles, representing the golden coconut called kuyamis, abundant in Misamis Oriental and the namesake of its annual festival that celebrates good harvest.
