For the first time in 25 years, there’s no McDonald’s signage beside the Cepalco Christmas Tree in Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City during the holidays.

Kagayanons who spend time at the park at night were used to see the large McDonald’s signage on top of the building fronting the park where the giant Christmas Tree of Cepalco is put up during the yuletide season.

The fast food chain closed its landmark store last June 30, 2020 ending 25 years of serving the local populace in the Divisoria area.

This is our second feature on Miss Kuyamis 2019 3rd Runner-up and now Army Cpl. Chery Rose Lomopog. Her team was recently in Cotabato to escort a Local Serbisyo Caravan where she realized that being part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ”fight with unity” is something she can be proud of.

RANDOM SHOTS: Balsa, a growing weekend getaway trend in MisOr; list of operators here

$

Planning on a weekend picnic on a floating cottage? A lot of “Balsa” operators have now proliferated in recent weeks in Laguindingan and Alubijid towns in Misamis Oriental as an alternative to beach resorts and swimming pools. Basically made of bamboos, these floating cottages provide a perfect getaway for families and friends going on a picnic especially during weekends.

Since our first post last October 30 (see below), more balsa operators have started operations in the weeks that followed providing more balsas to picnic goers.

The newest attraction in the province now has two main jump off points for these floating cottages: (1) Old Moog Port in Laguindingan and (2) the Boardwalk at Baybay in Alubijid, both situated across each other along the bay. Picnic goers can just choose either Moog or Baybay. See map below.

balmap

Groups can rent floating cottages for a day-long picnic at affordable prices which range from P2,200 to P3,500 depending on size. The biggest cottage can accommodate 35 persons. There is no corkage for food so you can bring a feast to the balsa. Whether you will swim or not, you still have the time to enjoy being in the middle of the sea. Bigger cottages also have an “indoor pool” which is good for children. By the way, balsa operators require life vest for each guest. All floating cottages are also tied with a rope so it won’t drift towards the sea.

Videoke bars still not allowed to operate

Do you miss singing your favorite songs in karaoke/videoke bars with your friends? Well, you’ll just have to do it within the comforts of your home as karaoke/videoke bars remain prohibited from opening in Cagayan de Oro City even with the relaxed quarantine guidelines. This was stressed by acting City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery during a recent press briefing at City Hall.

Dr. Nery said there is a very high risk of respiratory droplet infection of COVID-19 during videoke/karaoke singing since singers open their mouths and hold microphones which may contain fomites or infectious substances such as the coronavirus. She also added that it’s also difficult to sing with either or both face mask and face shield increasing the risk of infection.

Instead, she suggested to make use of computers or TV sets equipped for videoke/karaoke singing but only within the same household if they are entertained by singing during Christmas.

Have you visited El Salvador City lately? Local residents have started to enjoy and take selfies with the colorful giant parols displayed in front of its City Hall. There’s also a large “Belen” at the center with an elaborate design that reminds us of the birth of our Savior – to which the city was named. And colorful lights projected on the City Hall’s facade make it worth visiting at night.
